#KeepTheBan

It was inevitable that we would be back here if the Tories got back into power; facing another unnecessary battle to keep the Fox hunting ban on the statue books of Westminster. Where animal rights campaigners have been trying to focus on other areas, such as; banning wild animals from circuses, and so on, we are now drawn backwards in time by this up coming free vote on Fox Hunting. Instead of being able to focus on improving the lives of animals in other areas, we are now back to square one on this issue.

It is now up to us to make a stand against Fox hunting, and let our voice be heard. Over 80% of the British public support having a ban on Fox hunting, and rightly so. We must not be mistaken that our only voice, and excersie of our democracy comes once every five years with the stroke of a pencil on the ballot box, that is not true. We have a voice all the time, we can write to MPs, presenting them with arguments and reasons to show why they should back the hunting ban.

———

This act, I suspect, will be presented to the House of Commons very quickly. The new parliament opens on the 27th of May, so we have just over two weeks to gather support to KEEP the Hunting Act in place. The more support we gather, the more power we have to keep this ban in place. The last thing that we can do in this moment, is to become complacent. Don’t take any vote or MPs backing for granted, write to your MP, and write other MPs asking them to support the Hunting act.

With little time on our hands, we have to use it carefully, and try and win over MPs who are more likely to vote with us. The MPs who we need to win over are:

Labour MPs  (232 seats)

SNP MPs      (56 seats)

Plaid Cymru (3 seats)

Liberal Democrat Seats ( 8 seats )

Social Democratic and Labour Party ( 3 seats )

The Green Party ( 1 seat )

and, there is ONE independent seat.

—– This will make up 304 seats. So, we need more.

Other seats….

we have already 5 Conservative MPs that are against Fox hunting!

Now all we need to win over is 22 Conservative MPs. I think we should try and perused Tory rebel MPs, and backbench Tory MPs. The Conservative MPs we are never going to win over is those who are more senior, and prominent  Tories, also, we aren’t going to win over Cabinet MPs, as essentially they have to vote with the government, or they will lose their jobs.

Other parties that trying to perused won’t work –

Sinn Fien

And, the one UKIP MP,

reasons:

UKIP is for Fox hunting, and Sinn Fien doesn’t take their seats in the House of Commons.

Other MPs which will vote against the act:

3 DUP MPs (potentially we could win over all 8).

———-

I will be coming up with more blogs in the coming days about how you can contact your MP, and if you can’t think of anything to say, use a template I create to send to MPs.

Thank You,

We can do this!!
